Issue #22

Our Children, Our Future / Nos enfants, notre avenir believe that healthy children = healthy families = healthy communities. To this end, they provide resources, programs, education and support to expecting moms and dads, as well as parents and children in the formative years. They help parents build a secure, nurturing and loving home for their children. Our Children, Our Future have helped thousands of parents in our community make positive changes in their lives that directly impact on their children, our future!

One of the important components of their programs is nutritional education. This is for pregnant moms as well as infants and young children. Fruits, vegetables, cheese and milk used daily in various Our Children, Our Future programs cost $785 every week. Like most non-profit organizations, funding is always an issue. The idea of the Calendar Of Life sprung from the challenge of being able to continue providing these nutritional programs. John Whitehead of True Steel Security spear-headed the idea. The first thing he did was share the idea with Sherry Laframboise at Orion Printing. She jumped on board and has donated numerous hours in free design work. Gino Donato of Donato Photography was receptive and attended several sessions in order to provide photos for the calendar. Then it came time to invite other businesses to sponsor a week of the year in which to purchase the fruits and vegetables. “We felt certain that we could find enough businesses out in our communities who were willing to purchase one week's worth of fruits and vegetables for the children. And we were right!”  said John Whitehead. “This community has a big heart and did not hesitate to dig into their pockets for this worthwhile cause.”

The calendars are fresh off the press. They are beautiful. Each month highlights a service/program that Our Children, Our Future delivers, and tells a little bit about it. How can you help? Purchase a calendar.

MONITORING PROCEDURE CHANGE

In an ongoing effort to reduce false police dispatches, we are making a change to our procedures. When we receive a burglary signal we will now call the premise twice and let the telephone ring six (6) times each time before dispatching the police. If the premise has an answering machine we will leave a message on our second attempt. Our procedures can be tailored to your requirements. Should you wish to get a detailed copy of our standard alarm monitoring procedures or to discuss procedures for the monitoring of your alarm, please call (705) 673-8181 in the Sudbury area or (800) 465-4166 or go to http://www.northern911.com/Alarm_Procedures.htm
