Your System Saved His Life ~

As a senior citizen, the last thing you may want is to be dependent on others. Still, the people who love you have genuine concerns about your well being. Now there’s a way to retain your independence and relieve the fears of your loved ones.

The Lifeguard personal emergency device is a unique, affordable device that lets you report an emergency at the touch of a button so that emergency personnel can rush to your aid immediately. The system is available by purchase or rental. The Lifeguard comes with a portable panic button, which you can carry with you or have nearby while going about your day. If something should happen and you require assistance, a touch of a button will ensure that help is on the way.

Other valuable features include activity timers that will send a signal to the monitoring station if there is no movement in the premises for an extended period of time. Also, you can use your Lifeguard to remind you to take your pills, let the dog out or anything else you might need to do on a regular basis. The Interrogator module is an added bonus that allows our monitoring station to communicate verbally with the client without them having to pick up a phone. We can open the lines of communication and reassure the client that help is on the way and, or gather more specific information to pass along to the fire department, police department or ambulance responding to the call.

We are very proud of this service. Here is a copy of a letter that one of our Lifeguard clients sent us:

This note is written in appreciation of the quick response and care that was given to my father in December 2000. “Your system saved his life.” I have recommended your system to a few friends explaining that the Lifeguard system allows no worry, independence and peace of mind knowing they (loved ones) are being monitored 24 hours a day under highly trained people. Keep up the good work.

Gratefully Yours,

Joanne Cutsey

Quote of the Month

What I do today is important because I am paying a day of my life for it.

What I accomplish must be worthwhile because the price is high.

What to do if You Think Someone
has Broken into Your Premise

We’ve all seen the movies where the main character walks up to the house or apartment door and sees that the door has been forced open, and everyone watching is saying, “Don’t go in, you idiot.” But of course the idiot goes in, and there’s usually a bad guy waiting. Fortunately, the good guy has to last until the end of the movie, so there’s only a scuffle or a discussion at gunpoint, until the good guy escapes or maybe gets knocked out temporarily—until the next scene.

What can happen when you walk in on a real bad guy is more difficult to predict, which is why it is important to follow a few simple rules when you think there’s been someone m your premise.

If you have a monitored alarm system and you’re responding to a call from a monitoring station informing you of a break-in, wait for police to arrive at your premise before going inside. By waiting safely outside, you give the police a chance to investigate the scene first. There’s also no risk of you being mistaken for the intruder if you’re not in the premise.

Don’t even think of taking a weapon into the premise. Again, the police may mistake you for an intruder. Also, an intruder can take the weapon away and use it against you. If you have a monitored security system and have received a call from the monitoring station, call the station just before arriving at the premise. Check whether the police have responded to the call yet.

Have a flashlight on hand in case the intruder has tampered with your electric power. Have an ID on you should you have to identify yourself to authorities. When you arrive at the premise, walk around its perimeter to check for signs of a break-in (open or broken windows, doors left open). Stand back to view the roof for signs of entry.

If you enter the premise and hear noises that are not normal, get out immediately. If you should ever come upon an intruder, do not place yourself between the intruder and the exit door. If the intruder does not bolt at first sight, get out and get help.

Although wireless keys (key fobs) are convenient, they can represent a security risk. Because all one has to do is press a button to disarm the system, users must be made aware of the risks involved if a wireless key is stolen or lost. Should you, or one of your alarm system users loose a key fob, you should call the service department immediately. With the incredible advances in technology, we are able to delete a key fob, or sensor, from many systems without stepping foot in your premises using upload/download software.

 WHO IS STEALING FROM
YOUR SHOP!?

A statistical analysis performed on employees shows that 13% of workers will attempt to steal from their employers. 21% are basically honest and will never steal from their employers and 66% will steal if others do without repercussions. A proactive security operation can have a visual impact on the two-thirds of employees who say they might steal. Employees and clients who know they are being watched and/or recorded using closed circuit television cameras are less apt to steal. The mere presence of CCTV cameras can reduce theft significantly.

The National Retail Security Survey showed that employee theft made up 41.4% of inventory shrinkage, while shoplifting accounted for 35.1%. Administrative error was credited with 17.6% of shrinkage and vendor fraud made up 5.9%.

Studies clearly show that losses to theft, whether committed by employees or shoplifters, can be disastrous to businesses. Making a concerted effort to closely monitor your work environment could have an outstanding effect on your profit margins.
