OCTOBER 1996, ISSUE 6 FIRE FACTS • Fires can double in size every 30-60 seconds! (a $20,000.00 kitchen fire can become a $160,000.00 house fire in less than 3 minutes!) • In eight minutes a fire can grow by 64 times! • Progression of a structural fire to the point of “flashover” (the very rapid spreading of fire due to the super-heating of room contents and other combustibles) generally occurs in 7 to 10 minutes! • In a fire, minutes, even seconds could mean the difference between life and death! • For medical aid calls, basic life support should be initiated within 4 minutes! • A reduction of only 2 to 3 minutes in the completion of a rescue operation could increase a fire victim’s survivability eight fold! • As response times increase, public safety decreases!
Don't put yourself in the position of saying “I should have!” If you don’t have fire detection as part of your monitored system, add it now!
Have We Paid Your Monitoring If we haven’t, then you are missing out on some easy money. More and more people are installing alarm systems every day. The neighbour or relative you thought would never put a system in, is now putting one in. Everyone deserves to have the peace of mind you have every time you arm your system. For every referral who becomes a True Steel client, we will credit you for three months monitoring fees. I’d love to pay for your monitoring this way every month of the year!

True Steel Security Attention: Mr. Rick Legault Dear Rick; As you already know, in the early hours of Sunday morning, someone threw a chunk of ice through one of our side windows. It turned out to be a case of drunken, mindless vandalism. Thanks to the alarm system, which promptly triggered, this individual was deterred from causing any further damage, or possible theft. Yours Sincerely, D. Patel, Manager
False Alarm Reductions False alarms take Fire, Medical, and Police personnel away from real emergencies. The overwhelming majority of false alarms are caused by user error. If there are any features or functions about your security system that you feel you need training or refresher training on, please contact us right away. If you feel your staff is not taking the alarm system seriously enough and might also require a refresher, then once again, please contact us. Should you have a false alarm, do not panic. Simply call the monitoring station, give them your valid pass code and let them know all is O.K. and no response is needed. Do not leave your home or business until you have talked to the monitoring station to cancel the dispatch. Don’t feel embarrassed about this. Part of the monitoring station’s task is to screen false alarms before dispatching proper authorities. Anything we can do to improve the situation and help reduce false alarms is worth it for everyone! True Steel SecuritySudbury (705)

Every now and then we hear about people who have an alarm system and don’t use it regularly. A significant amount of break and enters happen while people are out running errands. “I was only gone for an hour!” is something we hear quite often. While we were unable to come up with accurate statistics for North Bay and Timmins, we did come across a Sudbury Star article (April 21, 1996) that said break and enters were up by 12% over last year! The statistics showed that break and enters were on the rise at private residences as well as businesses. It’s a province wide problem according to Chief McCauley.
You have an alarm. It’s easy to turn on and off.
Use it! The only thing worse than being broken into and robbed is being broken
into and robbed because your alarm system was not turned on! (Insurance
companies do not look kindly upon claims in which the alarm system was not
turned on.) SUMP PUMP CONCERNS? Did you know you can put a sensor on your sump pump that will sound your alarm and send a signal through to the monitoring station should your pump fail? If you are home, you can rush downstairs and address the situation. If you are away, we will contact one of your keyholders right away so they can address it. This could save you lots of money and aggravation. Call us for more details.
