SAVING LIVES - MAYBE YOURS

Over the last ten years, nearly all homes in Canada have installed smoke detectors. It should not come as any surprise that death by fire has decreased by nearly 40%. Now people are moving to an even higher level of protection by having smoke detectors monitored through their alarm system. Just when we feel we have licked one problem, another challenge crops up. Natural gas, propane and carbon monoxide have become even more menacing than smoke and fire.

Carbon monoxide is odourless and invisible. Most victims are overcome while sleeping. Early symptoms can be mistaken as flu or cold. Carbon monoxide poisoning can lead to brain damage or, in high concentrations, can be fatal. Unborn babies, infants and seniors are most susceptible. Propane gas is invisible, but does have a distinct odour. It is heavier than air and tends to fall to the floor. It is very explosive. Natural gas has a harmful element called methane. It is invisible and odourless. It is lighter than air and will collect along ceilings. It is very explosive.

Detectors are now available for these gases. Much like smoke detector evolution, they are available at retail stores in a model that simply sounds off locally. However, they are also available as detectors to be wired into your alarm system so that they sound off locally as well as send a signal into our monitoring station. This could be very important if carbon monoxide has built up to a point where the victim is unconscious and does not hear the local detector. In this case, a keyholder and/or the tire department would be dispatched to the home right away.

ALARM SEMINARS

True Steel Security has been very busy delivering one hour alarm seminars. The seminar is entitled “A Guide To Help Demystify, Select and Benefit From Alarm Systems”. It is not a True Steel commercial! On the contrary, it is a generic presentation as to what alarm systems can do, what they cannot do, what to look for in a system, what to avoid...

The presentations have been very well received. We have done them with insurance companies, neighbourhood watch groups, and service clubs. If you are a member of a community group and you feel your organization would enjoy and/or benefit from this presentation, then give us a call and we would be more than happy to do it for you.

 Dear Kevin,

We need your expertise and assistance in order to further expand our technical educational studies. On behalf of the education Committee, I would like to take this opportunity to request that you consider becoming an instructor for the “Level One Alarm Technician Training Program”. Your exam results have demonstrated a superior knowledge and understanding of alarm installation techniques.

We need people such as yourself to be active and involved in the association and the education program. Please send us your response as soon as possible.

Sincerely,

Robert Doig
Membership Services

Congratulations Kevin! We are very proud of you as an individual and as a technician.

We at True Steel as well as our clients are very fortunate to have you with us.

HAVE WE GOTTEN
To You YET?

One of the most important roles of your security system is to “deter” would-be intruders. The police will tell you the best thing you can do to safeguard your home from thieves is to put in a “monitored” alarm system. However, the thieves must know that you have a system if they are going to be deterred by it. This means window decals and yard signs.

Yard signs?

If you go to Southern Ontario, Western Canada, Quebec, or anywhere in the USA, you will find yard signs. They are mounted directly on buildings and mailboxes, or they come mounted on a solid metal stake that can be used to place them anywhere you want on your property.

They are very professionally done, reflective and guaranteed to hold their appearance through our four seasons. hue Steel has purchased them for our clients and we have been busy attempting to get them up, but the task is a big one. If we have not gotten to you  yet, and you want to be on a priority list, simply give us a call and we will oblige.

Are All Your Users Valid??

It is your responsibility to ensure that all your users have a valid passcode. If you have had staff come and go, make certain everyone who has access to the premise also has a valid passcode. If we get a signal from your business, and upon calling the premise to verify we talk to somebody who tells us they are a new employee who has been there for six months, but does not have a valid passcode, we will be dispatching the police. You don’t like it, and neither do the police. We take your security very seriously! Please help us in our task by doing the same.
